Application Forms

Many employers ask you to complete an application form instead of sending a CV. Application forms ask every applicant the same questions. If an employer asks you to complete an application form, don't send a CV instead. Keep a photocopy of the finished form. Use a black pen to complete the form.

As with CVs, the form must be clean and neat. Work out your answers on scrap paper first. Answer all the questions. If you don't have good handwriting, use neat CAPITALS or type the form if you can. Never squash extra details in margins or places where they can't be clearly read. Attach an extra piece of paper if necessary.

Most application forms ask why you left your previous jobs. Try to give a positive answer, for example: promotion or career progression. Always give an honest reason for leaving a job.
